Big Love and the Environment

We’re running out of time to save the planet, and we all need to make some small and major changes to our lifestyles. That doesn’t mean we can’t have a fabulous, fun weekend in the country, but we want to reduce the environmental footprint of Big Love as much as possible.

We made a good start in 2023 and 2024, but for 2025 we want to really smash it – with your help!

We have a sustainability strategy for the festival, and are committed to reducing waste, increasing recycling, sourcing food locally, measuring emissions, reducing fossil fuel use and transport & travel emissions.

Measures include:

100% composting toilets which do not require water or polluting chemicals, and break down to produce fertiliser.

50% of our waste is recycled, and our aim is to increase this to 65% by 2025.

Single-use plastics are banned on-site, and our bars use reusable cups.

We separate the following materials on-site for recycling: food, paper and card, glass, metal, plastic and cartons.

To encourage more sustainable travel:

We offer coach travel options from and to public transport hubs.

We offer a shuttle from the station to the site for crew.

We provide free secure cycle storage on site.

We encourage car sharing.

We favour contractors and suppliers with clear policies and commitments to reducing their environmental impact.

We are currently in discussions with suppliers with the goal of becoming the first festival in the UK to be powered entirely by hydrogen.

As members of Vision: 2025 we are keen to share our experiences and findings with other festivals and events through industry forums.
