Big Love Festival. 18th-21st July 2024. Usk, South Wales.

‘Cariad Bach’ Children’s Area

‘Cariad Bach’ (Little Love in Welsh) is the name of our brand new Kids’ Area at the festival. Open Friday, Saturday and Sunday till 7pm, Cariad Bach will be hosting a wonderful range of children’s activities, designed to engage and excite kids of all ages. Even fickle teenagers!

A satellite city, just away from the riff-raff and bom-de-bom of Big Love festival;  a whole world of fun for grooving grommets. Cariad Bach is full of performances, workshops and adventures of the imagination.

Follow your intrepid wanderers in a treasure hunt of the city, behind a bubbling trail of the picnic basket monster, grab some popcorn and ride a tricycle into a ride in a cinema for rascals. Keep your eyes peeled for a flock of super cwl seagulls,  lurking in the hay bale castle turrets. With the skies above the city plagued by strange weather,  keep your teacups close to catch any wandering storms.

Take a flying lesson with the circus birds, swing your hips in a side street hula discos, take a DJ Class, get crafty with crafts, throw some paint in a graffiti workshop and become the star in an evolving stop motion cinema production.

Sit back and rest your dancing feet as you enjoy sky high shows from the trunk of The Pirate Taxi, among the feathers of The Bird House Circus and under an umbrella of a ‘Strange Weather’.

As the sun goes down, and the pucks are tucked into their straw bale dream beds. The black widows creep out their daytime slumbers as the moon rises. ‘Rock n Rollium’ a cabaret of freaks; suspend disbelief as these rockers shock and amaze with acts of unapologetic anarchic revelry.

From a classic swing-boat ride and art sessions for younger children, to a DJ Academy and graffiti art workshops for older children, there’s something for everyone!

There will be walkabout circus performances, and even the chance for children to try out some acrobatic skills on the aerial circus rig.

Families can take part in The Twig Cinema, creating a stop-frame video as a giant picture is created over the course of the weekend.

Workshops include hat and mask making, hula hooping and a fun clay workshop.

Families are encouraged to come and join the festival parade on Sunday afternoon, led by a 50-piece samba band, as everyone shows off their hat-tastic festival outfits.

Cariad Bach is located next to the circus Big Top, where more activities will take place, including the Sparklettes’ Family Rave and a silent disco.

Professional artist Spike Clark will be on hand on Saturday and Sunday to guide older children as they get hands-on with spray can graffiti art techniques.

The Big Love DJ Academy takes place over two sessions on Friday and Sunday, offering children the chance to learn essential DJing skills from professional DJ and educator Killer Tom.

Obviously we’ve booked good weather for the Big Love weekend, but in case of rain, most activities can be switched inside the 28m big top tent.

All children’s activities are free unless otherwise stated, but a donation towards materials costs is always appreciated.
